Erin and Rooster
I
will be happy to share about Rooster, my 11-year-old red Dobe. I
just adopted him about a month and a half ago, and he and I have
really bonded and settled in here together. He loves his walks! If I
don't take him, he will serenade me - would you like some whine with
that cheese? He is so well-behaved on his walks - he really gives
the breed a good name! Neighborhood children and adults alike love
to pet him and tell him how sweet he is (and he loves it too!).
I don't have any particular story, but I can say that the reason I
decided to adopt a dog in the first place was because I had been
having panic attacks in the middle of the night. I thought perhaps
if I had a dog here with me, I wouldn't be afraid anymore, and so
far that is the case! Rooster sleeps with me, and usually he has to
be either laying back-to-back with me or curled up on my arm with
his head buried in my shoulder. He's such a baby! If I'm watching
t.v. and he's not getting enough attention, he will stand in front
of me and put his chin on my chest and stare me in the eyes until I
pet him.
He likes to get a bath. I gave him a bath in the yard a week or so
ago and after I had toweled him off, he skipped and bounded around
the yard like a puppy. I swear he had a twinkle in his eye when he
was playing tag with me. Well, he was playing tag; I was just trying
to catch him! :)
I am so glad that I adopted Rooster, and the vet said he looks very
happy too! I'm glad we have Doberman Rescue. Doberman is such a
misunderstood breed, it is necessary to educate people and show them
that Dobes, as any other dogs, can be loving, faithful companions if
they are given a stable, secure home.
