Welcome
to the latest edition of our newsletter! We are going to be making
some changes in our newsletter. Since we are spread out across 3
states and all of us have very diverse lives but a lot of common
interests too, we thought it would be great to make our newsletter
more interactive. All of you who volunteer with us have stories to
tell, those who own Dobermans that they have gotten from us have
stories to tell. In each issue I want to feature a dog story from
at least one of you and a volunteer story too. How did you get
interested in Dobermans? Send pictures too. Tell us about
yourselves and your dogs. We all need to connect with each
other.
Please send your pictures and
stories to
dron95@aol.com
and mark them “newsletter” and we will feature them in the issues
ahead. We also want the newsletter to be sent through the internet
as much as possible. This makes is faster and more cost effective,
plus, we can make it bigger and better. We look forward to hearing
from you!

My name is Holli Sampson. I
joined the team this past summer. Dobermans have been a part of my
life for the past 14 years but dogs have been a part of my life
since the day I was born. The reason I got involved has to do with
a lovely dog that I had the privilege of owning for 13 years. Her
name was Audrey Hepburn and that is her picture above. Audrey never
met animal or person she did not like. She was a good will
ambassador and sometimes quite a drama queen. She lived up to her
name is so many ways that I couldn’t begin to explain it here.
I always knew that when she
died it would be difficult but when the Good Lord called her home
last May 22nd, I found out just how difficult it would
be. For 13 years she had been a dear friend who listened to
everything I had ever talked about(even the nonsense things!)and
always been at my side. She had “starred” in stories I wrote about
her and had a human fan club. My husband and I were devastated.
Now, we weren’t alone. We had
adopted our 1 ˝ year fawn colored male from Doberman Rescue in March
to join our 2 year old Gracie and Audrey. Gracie and Daniel were
wonderful even as they dealt with their own grief in losing their
old companion. Gracie licked our tears and Daniel gave us lots of
snuggles. Friends and family were supportive. Kirk and I had a new
challenge of learning how to live with young dogs again!
We all dread the day that we
see the first signs of age in our dogs(and ourselves too!). Audrey
grew old but part of us never noticed her age. We noticed her
beauty, her wisdom and her sweetness. She grew softer and more
loving with each passing day. Her health remained relatively good
until the last 10 months of her life when arthritis started to get
the best of her rear legs but it never got the best of her warm
heart.
A friend of mine once told me
that there is nothing more beautiful about a dogs life than old
age. I really wondered when she made that statement but also she
made it from a good knowledge base because her call in life was to
rescue old dogs that were no longer wanted. It wasn’t until I
experienced it with Audrey that I understood what she meant. If one
looks beyond the obvious signs of aging there is a real beauty
beyond all of that. It applies to humans too. Those who are older
should not be cast off and ignored. Inside of every living
creature, whether it be dog or human, that lives to old age is the
child full of life and love and mischief and humor. Look for it and
you will soon see.
What does all of that have to
do with Doberman Rescue? After Audrey died I kept in touch with
Mary Gibilisco and her gentle persuasion got me to join the team.
Mary has a way about her. She doesn’t brow beat or offer guilt
trips. For me, she was just there and kept in touch with me. One
day I was going through my pictures and found the one of Audrey
above and I could almost feel her telling me to go help the others
find homes. I called Mary and asked her how I could help and here I
am!
Joining the team has
brought me comfort in my loss. It’s opened up opportunities for
me to meet dogs and people of all ages and my life is richer for
it. What a great group of people we have! I’m so thankful to
be a part of this group. I am looking forward to meeting all of
you as we launch this interactive newsletter and get to know one
another and unite as a team! We all have much in common to
share and to encourage each other along the way.
We have had an exciting new
adventure come to us at Doberman Rescue. Applications for adoption
always excite us. We are always overjoyed to see our dogs find
their forever homes and to make new friends of the people that
adopt. We now have our very first nursing home request! Tim
Knutsen, the administrator of the Wisner Care Center, loves
Dobermans and has requested one for the nursing home. We are in the
process of matching up the perfect dog and we hope Tim will keep in
touch with us in the future with all kinds of updates as one of our
dogs reaches out to hearts in need. We hope to keep you updated in
future issues.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! No matter
how much spare time you may or may not have you DO have talents we
can use! Contact us at
dron95@aol.com,
or 402-397-1742 and ask how you can help. Small blocks of your
time, an hour here or there, makes a BIG DIFFERENCE to us, not to
mention our dogs. You will be rewarded with lots of wet dog kisses
and some new people friends too! We can train you and will work to
put you into an area where you feel comfortable in what you are
doing. Please give some thought to the matter and give us a call!

PROVERBS 12:10
Dear Friend,
Doberman Rescue of Nebraska
needs your help. We have a plan to build kennels for our dogs that
are not in foster homes prior to going to their forever homes. We
have the building we need and a donated heater. Funds are needed
for the concrete, air conditioning and materials to finish off the
project. We are trying to raise $10,000.
We also need funds for medical
care, boarding and food for our animals. Every dollar you send goes
directly to helping our animals. No one at Doberman Rescue of
Nebraska earns any kind of salary. We are all volunteers.
Would you please consider
helping us?
Thank you in advance for your
support! We at Doberman Rescue of Nebraska wish you all of the best
in the upcoming holidays and brightest hopes for the new year!
