HOW TO ADOPT Doberman Rescue of Nebraska, Inc. is a non-profit organization that rescues Dobermans from shelters, from owners who cannot or will not provide for them, and those who are strays whose owners never try to locate. The rescued dog goes directly to a veterinarian for a spay/neuter, vaccinations, and any other necessary medical treatment. From the veterinarian the dog usually goes into foster care. Once there, the foster parents work with the dog to achieve basic obedience, housebreaking, overcoming any fears that may result in undesirable behavior, and proper socialization. Many of these dogs have been neglected, not only in a nutritional/medical sense, but also in a psychological/emotional sense. The socialization process promotes the dog's confidence, willingness to learn, and trust. For many dogs this is the first love and kindness that they have ever known. Our dogs are placed as "indoor" dogs only.
The adoption fee usually ranges from $200 to $250 depending on the ages of the dog. Mix breed dogs are $175. This money is used to pay for medical bills and advertising costs. There is an adoption application to be completed and an internal home check to be performed before the dog is released. A follow up check is performed during the first year. Doberman Rescue of Nebraska, Inc. participates in fundraising events, which allows money to be raised for the purchase of heartworm preventative, heartworm treatment for those who test positive and other diagnostic tests and treatments. To adopt a Doberman, call 402-614-4495 in Omaha. Or send an e-mail to DRON at dron95@yahoo.com. You can also use our on-line adoption form by clicking here.
