10 Reasons to Adopt an Older Dog

Shelby

heartbreaking story

Mother and Son Reunion:  Sienna and Sterling reunite for a visit.

Courtesy posting - Mia

Mia can only stay at her current foster home until July -

We are in desperate need of a foster or forever home to help her rehab from her
Hip Trauma.

She is great with all other pets so if there is a home that has another happy pup for her to play with (and not hurt) her, it would be great.

If there is a home with no pets but someone who loves to cuddle with her.. She'd be just as happy as that’s her second favorite thing to do next to playing.

We would assist with her food, supplement and *current* vet needs at this time. Thanks so much!

Her petfinder write up is below:
Mia was born August 2008- Mia extremely friendly with children, small animals and other happy dogs. Like all pups, she will need some basic obedience. She will often flop on her back for belly rubs. Her hip was shattered in Dec 2008 someone 'tripped over her' which caused it a horrible break. The former caregiver let her live like that,in pain, til April 2009 when we got her. She is currently doing rehab therapy. The hip should be well in a few months However her other hip has dysplasia, so she will need a home who is willing to work with this as she will need the appropriate exercise, Joint Supplement and diet dog food. Despite all this - this sweetie is - very active and playful. Pics do not do her justice . She is papered pure breed but will be spayed once she recoups and will be micro chipped. She is up to date on vaccinations and housebroken

Jackson is a male 10yr old, red Dobie. He is well-behaved and curious. He is great with children of all ages. He once lived with cats and could probably get used to them again. He would chase them, but quite sure he would never eat them...he's more curious than anything. He tries to act like a tough guy, but is a big lover. You would never know his age if I didn't tell you. He is still as active as he was when he was 2. Loves to run and play. He does have a weak bladder when he gets excited. His stomach can be sensitive, just needs to be on 1 kind of food and no table food or bones from the pet store. Jackson loves to be around people. He doesn't jump on furniture. We leave the kids outside with food and he won't bother them. He has never jumped a fence. It would take him a few times to get used to another dog but positive in time he would adjust and become best friends. He needs a loving home to retire too.

*If you live outside of the Omaha area and are inquiring about a specific dog please email us to save us long distance fees in returning your calls.  This is another way you help the animals.  Thank you.

B/T = black and tan
C = cropped, D = docked, NC = not cropped
All of our dogs above are current with all shots, are on heart worm preventative monthly and are neutered/spayed. All dogs are tail docked. All of the above Dobes are pure breed Dobermans unless otherwise noted.

We hope you can find a place in your heart and your home for one of our rescue Dobes.

Please Note:  In most cases we require a fenced yard.

We do not place our rescue dogs in homes with very young children (under the age of 8 years). We set these limitations, not because of aggression issues with our dogs, but because Dobermans are generally large, active dogs and can easily knock down, run over or easily trip a small child, causing a serious fall. Also, we reserve the right to refuse adoption for any reason.

Our adoption area encompasses Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.
